Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Mineral Development and Labour, Anisa Zeb Tahirkheli has said that it was imperative to formulate an equitable and permitting regime and to implement mineral and mining governance policy in order to establish a transparent administration and management system in mineral sector and to gain sustainable development.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mineral Policy, 2014 was the starting point in this regard while the most easiest and practicable Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mineral Development and Regulation Act (KP-MDR Act, 2015) has also been prepared which would soon be presented in law department for legitimating.
This she stated while talking in a high level meeting held here on Tuesday to finalise draft of the mineral act aimed at to improve governance, foster the development, regulate mining procedures and practices and remove impediments in the mineral sector of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The Secretary Mineral Development Department Dr Attaur Rehman and Director Planning Syed Bilal Khisro briefed the Minister about the draft of the said act. The participants of meeting comprehensively reviewed the draft along with discussing its different sections pertaining to professional interest and technical significance. The participants also took holistic view of preamble of the act in order to make it internationally competitive. Anisa Zeb on the occasion said it was difficult to survive without streamlining the department adding that we had issues regarding mining and processing methods due to the lack of skilled persons and equipments but we are going to solve them on priority.
