The number of active SIMs increased by 1.645 million in the country and reached to 124.24 million which was brought down to 111.5 million after the SIMs verification drive through Biometric Verification System (BVS). Out of target of 103 million active SIMs, 75.5 million SIMs were re-verified while 27.5 million active SIMs were blocked by 15th May 2015 through BVS which brought down the number of active SIMs from 139 million to 111.5 million.
According to the latest figure released by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), the number of total cellular subscribers reached 124.24 million by November 2015 against 122.595 million in the month of October in the current year. However, the data shows that the number of 3G/4G users reached 21.658 20.075 million by November, 2015 as compared to 20.075 million by October 2015, showing a reasonable growth in modern mobile broadband services with each passing month.
The number of 4G (Zong) users jumped from 227,675 subscribers in October 2015 to 254,122 subscribers during the period under review. According to the PTA, the number of Zong, Mobilink, Ufone and Telenor reached 4.376 million, 6.807 million, 4.02 million and 6 million 3G users respectively by November, 2015. Warid LTE subscriber reached 192,917 during this period. Mobile tele-density increased from 64 percent to 64.6 percent and Broadband subscribers increased from 23,203,352 to 24,785,830 during the period under review.
