Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Imran Khan on Friday lambasted the government for the tax amnesty scheme by labelling it as "a ploy of the ruling elite to favour themselves." Speaking outside the Parliament House, he said that numerous amnesty schemes had been introduced in the past but they all failed to achieve the desired results.
"The ruling elite introduce such scheme to turn their black money into white," he alleged, adding that the PTI would oppose any such scheme as this was neither going to help the country's economy nor the poor. Talking about China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, he said that all parties of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had reservations about the project as they have not been taken into confidence.
"The government is keeping all details related to the CPEC and LNG contracts confidential and this doesn't reflect democracy in the country," he said. "The democracy is in transparency and accountability rather in the assembly," he said, urging the government to share all details of the CPEC and the LNG contracts with the public.
Commenting on a recent visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Pakistan, he said that a business tycoon of India was arranging all meetings of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif with Modi and this was a clear manifestation of conflict of interest. "The dialogue process between India and Pakistan needs to be institutionalised rather leaving it on the will of a person," he said.
Khan also urged the Election Commission of Pakistan to take up the NA-122 case at the earliest as this was a clear case of fraud in the polls. The PTI has alleged that over 20,000 votes were illegally transferred in the constituency before the by-polls and this should be investigated.
Criticising the Punjab member of the ECP, he said that former justice Riaz Kiani was never a neutral umpire and was still playing PML-N's game. Commenting on PTI member Jahangir Khan Tareen's victory in the latest by-polls in Lodhran, he said that this proved the 2013 general elections were massively rigged in favour of the ruling party. "The whole system has collapsed and this discourages professionals and educated persons to excel in their respective fields," he said, adding the ECP doesn't have the capacity to hold fair and free elections in the country.
