The Dispute Resolution Councils (DRCs) have successfully settled 528 petty disputes during the last month throughout Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and referred 35 cases to other relevant forums for legal action.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Nasir Khan Durrani has constituted Dispute Resolution councils in Peshawar in 2014 so as to bring positive change in 'Thana culture' and ensure prompt settlement of petty disputes amongst the general public.
Owing to its resounding success and the ever increasing trust of the public on this system of dispute resolution a strong need was felt for replicating it in other areas of the province.
Later, such councils were established all over the province and a large number of people are approaching these councils for resolution of their petty disputes. Four five months ago the High Court in a stay order stopped the DRCs for further functioning.
After the vocation of stay order of High court necessary amendments were brought in the law and it started operational again and achieving tremendous success and people are approaching to it in large number.
It may be recalled that star cricketer belonging to Swabi, Yasir Shah also visited one of the DRC office in Swabi the other day and voluntarily become its member and promised to give time to settle disputes between rivals and ensure peace.
The basic purpose of establishment of dispute resolution is to provide prompt and free of cost justice to the public. The Dispute Resolution Councils are responsible for amicable resolution of disputes, fact finding enquiries and acting as jury in the conduct of contested investigation.
These councils have been formed in light of Quranic injections of Surah Al-Hujaraat where Allah Almighty has ordained as "Muslims are brothers, therefore make peace between two brothers and fear Allah that the mercy may be shown to you".
In the last month a total of 599 cases were received in these councils through out the province in which 528 cases were amicable resolved and 35 were referred to other relevant forms for legal action.
The DRCs in Peshawar resolved 78, in Mardan 33, Nowshera 68, Charsadda 103, Swabi 71, Kohat 25, Karak 2, Hangu 4, Swat 19, Buner 9, Upper Dir 2, Shangla 9, Abbottabad 28, Haripur 19, Mansehra 20, Battagram 2, Bannu 9 and D.I.Khan 15.
The present government has expressed full satisfaction over the role and performance of these councils and such councils have been established in each and every nook and corner of the province particularly in the rural areas as to ensure free and quick dispensation of justice to the poor people at their door steps.
