I feel honoured and pride to navigate an institution which is moving fast against the high tides of the time. It holds the position of one of the leading pores of the world. On this occasion of celebration, I would like to share a brief history of the organisation. Its journey started some two centuries ago when a fleet of Great Alexander touched the Keamari.
But Mir Fateh Ali Khan Talpurs was the first person to realise its importance and the trade through this port began in the period of Talpurs. Although it was underdeveloped then and only small boats could enter the channel but became the basis for start of trade through this port Karachi Port took its initial shape in British period. It was Sir Napier Charles to start various development works like widening of entrance, construction of Docks etc.
Today, we are the leading port of Pakistan and handling 60% of national trade. With the containerization, the cargo handling has gained immense momentum world-wide and even it benefited Pakistan where private sector was encourage to participate and handle containers at their terminals through their own management. The cargo handling has since independence multiplied a lot and it will have exponential growth when the South Asia Pakistan Terminals become operational at the new deep water container port of Karachi Port. We, at KPT, see a vibrant future and we are all set to cash on our share from global throughput growth. We are surely on the track that outlays more success for us in years to come.
