Turning down the Election Tribunal (ET) verdict about Sindh Assembly constituency PS-76 Dadu-III on Wednesday, the Supreme Court issued directives to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to hold re-poll in the constituency. A three-member bench headed by Justice Mian Saqib Nisar resumed the hearing of the matter and expressed dismay over the Tribunal judge, terming it a bad luck of judiciary as some ineligible judges were appointed on Election Tribunal.
Pakistan People's Party (PPP) candidate Ms Parveen Aziz Junejo had been declared succeeded in 2013 general elections whereas her rival from Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) Liaqat Ali Jatoi challenged the result before concerned Election Tribunal. To which the ET declared Jatoi winner in PS-76 III, disqualifying Ms Parveen Junejo in the constituency.
It is worth mentioning here that PML-N candidate had bagged 22,803 votes in 2013 election while PPP's Ms Junejo got 56,938 votes whereas an independent candidate Asghar Ali Sheikh secured only 95 votes in the election. Asghar Ali Sheikh has filed appeal in the apex court against the ET verdict seeking re-poll in the constituency. Issuing directives to the ECP in the matter, the court disposed of the case.
