Acting Ameer of the Jamaat-e-Islami, Liaquat Baloch, has said that the escalating tension between Saudi Arabia and Iran could spread over to other countries as Shia-Sunni conflict and Pakistan won't be safe from that. He has appealed to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to seek support from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for tiding over the grim situation without further delay. He was talking to media men after taking oath as acting Ameer of the JI, during the two day visit of Sirajul Haq to Qatar.
Liaquat Baloch warned the western countries not to add fuel to the fire as the conflict would not remain confined to the Muslim world but would engulf other parts of the world as well. He deplored that the Muslim world was facing challenges from all sides but unfortunately, the OIC is totally paralyzed. He said that the prevailing situation required a strong Islamic bloc having a clear cut stance on all issues, besides a sound defence, strong economy and political set up.
Liaquat Baloch said it was astonishing that Pakistan was not having a full-fledged Foreign Minister even in the prevailing critical situation and foreign affairs were being handled either by the Interior Minister, the Punjab Chief Minister or even by Maryam Nawaz. He also urged the UN and the Muslim world to step forward for ending the victimization of patriotic leaders in Egypt and Bangladesh.
He said in Egypt, elected President Dr Mursi had been topped and imprisoned on false charges. In Bangladesh, senior JI leaders including JI Ameer, BD, Maulana Mutiur Rahman had been sentenced to death for so called war crimes. He said the sole crime of these people was that they opposed secularization of Bangladesh. He said that the Bangladesh Supreme Court decision upholding the death sentence granted to Maulana Mutiur Rahman is a judicial murder. The JI acting chief said that both Pakistan and India were confronted with numerous challenges and had behaved wisely after the Pathankot attack. However, he suggested Mian Nawaz Sharif not to establish ties with India on family basis and instead, evolve a national policy vis-à-vis relations with India through the parliament under the National Action Plan.
Replying to a question, Liaquat Baloch said that all political parties except the Jamaat-e-Islami lacked true democracy as also a system of consultation with party workers. Due to that, the so-called elect-able are thrust upon the masses again and again due to which, the fruit of democracy did not reach the poor masses and corruption and VIP culture prevailed.
