The prime minister's Health Insurance Scheme will soon be launched in the Punjab, where in the first phase 1.28 million families of the districts of Narowal, Khanewal, Sargodha and Rahim Yar Khan are expected to will to get free treatment. The annual limit of under-treatment patient in any hospital for medical and surgical treatment of general diseases will be Rs 50,000 while that for the treatment of chronic diseases including cardiac, diabetes, cancer, liver and kidney will be Rs 250,000 per family.
The Punjab government will provide funds though its federal counterpart will have to bear expenses of billion of rupees. The scheme has already begun in Islamabad.
