"A polio campaign in the Punjab will take place between January 11 and 13 as part of the National Immunisation Day," said Health Advisor Khawaja Salman Rafique on Friday. Advisor Rafique claimed as many as 18 million under-five children would get polio drops and mobile and transit teams had been set up in the province.
He also claimed 42,604 teams were in 3,522 union councils and 36,012 mobile teams and 2,313 transit teams, with setting up 4,279 fixed Expanded Programme of Immunisation sites. In another related development, Health Secretary Ali Jan Khan said given the data analysis of previous campaign, not available children post-catch up, poorly covered areas and missed areas would be specifically focused.
He also told his Health Department staff to ensure proper evening meetings of teams in line with the National Emergency Plan for polio eradication The Punjab accounts for just one case from a country of a total of 51 cases in 2015.
