Prime Minister should notify the reduction of Rs 3 /unit in electricity tariff early as possible, said former Punjab Minister for Industries and ex-President of MCCI and ex-Chairman of APBUMA Khawaja Jalaluddin Roomi.
He has welcomed the announcement of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif regarding slashing the power tariff by Rs 3/ unit describing it a drastic and far reaching step which would help in strengthening the industrial sector.
Talking here, Roomi said that it is a positive step towards promotion of industries and providing relief to industrial consumers. He said it was a good initiative of the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. The reduction of electricity prices would have a very positive effect on commerce and industries of the country. The trickle down effects of this decision would shift to people and infant industries would be largely benefited. The reduction of electricity prices by Rs 3 per unit would certainly bolster trade, commerce industrial sector besides generating economic activities in Pakistan besides creation of jobs opportunities for youth and skilled manpower. Khawaja Roomi said that it should not be made part of FPA (Fuel Price adjustment); otherwise its benefit could not be shifted to industrial consumers. He said that since the entire world was facing recession we would have to reduce cost of doing-business in textile and clothing sector if the textile industry failed in competing in the global market the country would go bankrupt and millions of people would be affected.
Roomi said that unemployment of textile workers is on the rise in Punjab because of the delay in the announcement of textile package by the government. He said that long term textile policy must be announced for the revival of textile Industry. He said that textile package be announced without any further delay and refunds claims be cleared at the earliest.
