This is apropos a news item "Bickering over CPEC: China issues brutally honest advice" carried by Business Recorder yesterday. According to it, "China hoped that the relevant parties in Pakistan could strengthen communication and co-ordination on the China Pakistan Economic Corridor to create favourable conditions for the CPEC". The spokesman for Chinese Embassy also said, "China Pakistan Economic Corridor is the consensus reached between China and Pakistan, and has won popular support from the two peoples. CPEC faces Pakistan as a whole, and will bring development and benefits to the people of Pakistan."
How unfortunate and ironic it is that China, a country that has made its largest-ever investment outside China in the shape of economic corridor in Pakistan, has to step in with a view to bringing to an end nasty squabbles over the routes of the corridor among political parties. China seeks greater consensus in Pakistan's political leadership. Shame on us if we still do not stop the infighting. Shame on us, anyway.
