a team and individual competition of the Palmers Golf Championship resumed at the Royal Palm Golf Course on Monday, with two-member teams competing against each other. During the contest, the total points at stake were 28 made up of two points for each winning pair and one point for each individual victory. In case of a draw, the points are equally shared.
The team and individual matches were contested between the Royal Palm Reds team and its Royal Palm Blues counterpart. Right from the start the competing players were all charged up as old scores had to be settled and in particular the Reds team had narrowly lost in the previous encounter and wanted to regain their lost glory. As the 18 holes competition proceeded, noticeable was the sharp-edged competition and members of Reds and Blues put up a real fight through application of good golfing skills. Members of the Reds team looked just a little more determined and prevailed over their rivals in the individual matches winning nine out of fourteen matches and thereby compiling nine points as against five compiled by Blues Team.
In the individual matches the victorious ones for the Royal Palm Reds were Doctor Mohsin Anwer, Iftikhar Taj Mian, Shoaib Bokhari, Abdullah Sharif, Jaudat Hussain, Moeen Salahuddin, Muhammad Tariq, Nasir Mehmood and Tariq Malik. While all matches were closely fought, the one between Tariq Malik and Farid Malik was fierce as the former had to come up with full range of his stroke play mastery to beat the latter.
To add a sharp edge to the flow of the competition, the pairs' contest tilted in favour of the Royal Palm Blues though inspite of this tilt, they still failed to capture the title as they fell two points short. The Blues collected eight points through victories by the pairings of Haris Naseer and Humayun Mian, Ramzan Sheikh and Waqar Butt, Faisal Iqbal and Imran Meraj, and single points through draws by pairings of Zafar Haider and Abid Farooq and Max Babri and Asad Sheikh.
For the Reds, the winning pairs were Shoaib Bokhari and Umair Butt, Tariq Malik and Tariq Mushtaq while the pair of Dr Mohsin and Iftikhar Taj Mian fetched one point as a result of a draw. In the end, the Royal Palm Reds managed nine points in the individual contests and six points in the pair competition and their aggregate score was 15 points as against 13 aggregated by the Blues Team as a result of which the trophy went to the Royal Palm Reds.
