Spot basis bids for hard red winter wheat were mostly flat at flour mills and elevators across the southern US Plains on Friday, grain dealers said. Dealers at an elevator in Goodland, Kansas, said they bought some wheat from farmers Thursday afternoon and early on Friday, and have started to load barges. But even with the higher wheat prices, farmer selling remained relatively slow, with some calling about pricing.
Parts of Kansas and Oklahoma were expected to receive snow and rain over the weekend, which will add moisture to dormant wheat. Wheat typically does better in cold and wet weather. Protein premiums for railcar wheat to and through Kansas City were unchanged for wheat with 11.0 percent through 14.0 percent protein. At 10:52 am CST (1652 GMT), K.C. hard red winter wheat futures for March delivery were down 3-1/2 cents at $4.57-1/2 a bushel.
