The Apex Committee of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in its meeting held with Governor Sardar Mehtab Ahmad Khan in the chair on Thursday, reviewed the progress on the implementation of the National Action Plan (NAP) against militancy and discussed matters related to temporary displaced persons (TDPs) return with special focus on the security of Karakurram Highway in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan and overall law and order situation in the province and Fata.
The meeting was attended by Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khan Khattak, Chief minister Gilgit-Baltistan Hafeez Ur Rehman, Corps Commander Peshawar Lieutenant General Hidayat Ur Rehman, Corps Commander Rawalpindi Lieutenant General Zafar Iqbal, Chief Secretary KP, Amjad Ali Khan, IGP Nasir Khan Durrani, Acting IGFC, Brigadier Qaiser, Deputy Commandant Frontier Constabulary, Additional Chief Secretary Fata, Muhammad Aslam Kamboh, Secretary Home KP and GB, and other officials concerned.
The committee discussed in detail the current law and order situation prevailing in the province and Fata and also reviewed the progress and implementation of the previous decisions and the implementation of the National Action Plan, and 2nd phase of the return process of displaced persons to their native homes.
The committee reviewed the overall progress on the implementation of the National Action and decided to take further steps in this regard. Meanwhile the meeting was also briefed about the security measures of Karakuram highway and pace of progress on the ongoing security arrangements in the affected areas It was decided in the meeting that further steps would be taken to ensure the dignified repatriation of displaced persons.
The meeting also discussed the importance of the Karakuram Highway and decided that further steps would be taken to ensure the security of Karakuram Highway in the province.
To ensure the security of Karakuram Highway, the Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will request the Prime Minister of Pakistan for the early return of the troops of Frontier constabulary to the province and on their return these troops will be deployed at Karakuram Highway.
It was also decided in the moot that to facilitate the travelers passing through the Karakurram Highway and to redress the grievances of the people, the convoy system of Public transport on Highway would be lifted on 1st of February and further measures will be taken by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police to ensure the foolproof security of the Karakurram Highway.
The meeting was decided that a high level meeting will be held soon in islamabad to ensure the early completion of ongoing WAPDA projects on Karakurram highway. Besides, chief secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, senior civil and military officials and all stakeholders will attend the meeting to resolve the problems which causes impediments in their successful completion.
The Governor said that we will not allow the terrorists to continue their cowardly acts adding that whole the nation was committed to uproot the wave of militancy and intolerance from the country. He said all those who challenged the writ of the state would be dealt with an iron hand.
He said any form of terrorism and militancy will not be tolerated and entire Nation has declared the war against terrorism and stands united with our security forces to uproot the menace of militancy and terrorism. He said our security forces had rendered great sacrifices in the war against terrorism. He said militants should be rooted out from the nook and corner of the country.
He said every possible endeavor would be done to utilize all available recourses to ensure early and dignified return of TDPs and their rehabilitation adding that provision of facilities in the returning process of TDPs would be made sure at any cost. He further said that the great sacrifices rendered by our security forces and people would not go waste and we are committed to face any challenge in the future too.
