Muhammad Ammad, Asad Ullah and Hamza Sharif clinched the titles of the Under-11, 13 and 15 respectively in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Junior Age Group Squash Championship being played here at PAF Hashim Khan Squash Complex on Saturday. Director Sports PAF Sports Control Committee Group Captain Asghar Awan was the chief guest on this occasion. Vice President Pakistan Squash Federation and former World Champion Qamar Zaman, Chief Referee Munawar Zaman, officials, players and spectators were also present and witnessed the three finals.
In the first final played between Muhammad Ammad and Mutahir Ali that produced great thrill for the sitting spectators as both were stretched to five-set battle. Muhammad Ammad, who is also entered as top seed in the Under-11 category, won the first two sets by 12-10 and 13-11 but he failed to click in the third and fourth sets won by Mutahir Ali at 9-11 and 10-12. Both Muhammad Ammad and Mutahir Ali produced attacking game with some beautiful drops and cross court smashes were also witnessed.
It was the last and decisive set in which Ammad marched into victory against Mutahir Ali at 17-15. Both stretched to seventeen points. There was a see saw battle between Ammad and Mutahir for the last set but Ammad took it with better play. In the second final of the Under-13 category Asad Ullah defeated Noor Zaman by 3-1, the score was 12-10, 13-11, 9-11 and 12-10. Asad Ullah and Noor Zaman gave each other a tough and were stretched to four sets battle. Noor Zaman lost the first two set at 12-10 and 12-11 but put in strong resistance. Noor was par better with his much control drop shorts but Asad Ullah mostly dependent upon his forceful lengths shorts.
In the Under-15 final Hamza Sharif, the top seeded player, defeated Rashid Doulat by 3-1, the score was 11-9, 9-11, 11-8 and 13-11. Hamza Sharif, a winner of CAS Under-15 as well, did not look behind and marched quickly to the victory. At the end, the chief guest gave away trophies and cash prizes. Executive Member of KPK Squash Association Dr Wazir also announced Rs 500 for each winner and runners-up.
