The city on Monday evening received first spell of winter rain as weather is expected to remain partly cloudy in the next 24 hours, the Met office said. Drop in temperature is however not widely expected with the light rain that showered parts of metropolis in sequences with winds that tore at a speed of 70 nautical miles an hour, a Met official told Business Recorder, saying the rain was likely.
"After tomorrow [Tuesday] the situation will be clear to analyse through weather reports whether the first spell of winter rain will scale down temperature," the official said, adding that misty weather was expected the morning hours. However rains accompanied by gusty winds helped drop temperature significantly but also caused power outages and turned the roads and streets slippery and muddy. The office forecast mainly cold and dry weather for most parts of the country in the next 24 hours.
It said rains with snow over the hills were expected at isolated places of Malakand division and Gilgit-Baltistan. Fog will continue to grip plains of Punjab, Peshawar division and upper Sindh during night and morning hours. Temperature further plunged in Skardu to minus 11 degrees Celsius, Astore minus 8C, Gupis minus 6, Parachinar and Hunza minus 5 each, Kalam minus 4, Quetta, Gilgit, Dir, Kalat and Rawalakot minus 3 each, Malamjabba minus 2, Murree, Zhob and Dalbandin minus 1 each in the last 24 hours.
