The investigation team on Tuesday rejected the reports, which revealed that there were no traces of alcohol found in the blood sample of Pakistan Peoples Party's (PPP) imprisoned leader Sharjeel Memon.

During a hearing today at the Supreme Court (SC), the investigation team rejected the reports which stated that no traces of alcohol were found in the test conducted. The team also rejected the report which said that the bottles that were found inside Memon's sub-jail in Ziauddin Hospital contained honey and olive oil, reported local media .

The team told the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar that it would inquire more into the matter. The CJP said that when he visited the hospital room he found liquor bottles and wondered how honey and olive oil had then been found in the bottles.

He said that when he asked Memon about the bottles, Memon did not deny the existence of alcohol but denied that the bottles were his. The CJP also remarked that the condition of the sub-jail of Memon was even better than most suites in a hotel.

On Monday, reports released by Agha Khan Medical University Hospital revealed that Memon's blood samples did not reveal traces of alcohol. On Saturday, the CJP had paid a surprise visit to Memon's sub-jail in Ziauddin Hospital and found bottles of liquor. Upon inquiry, Memon had denied the liquor bottles being his. He was then later shifted to central jail.

Memon was sent to jail over Rs 5.7 billion corruption charges. The National Accountability Bureau  had filed a reference against Memon for his misconduct in payments regarding advertising campaigns.

It was revealed that Rs 5.7 billion was paid to seven advertising companies, which was a violation of Sindh Public Procurement Rules 2010. Memon was accused of issuing contract to advertising agencies at excessive rates without confirming the market rates. This had resulted in the loss of more than Rs 5 billion.
