Governor of Sindh, Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan here on Wednesday said the Karachi Operation is being conducted within the parameters of National Action Plan. Talking to participants of the inland-study tour of 48th PN and 13th correspondent staff courses being conducted by Pakistan Navy War College, during their visit to the Governor House, he said resolve, commitment and pledge are there since day one of the operation.
It is being executed with an aim to eliminate last of the terrorists from our society, said the Sindh Governor reiterating that task is underway in letter and spirit. Dr Ishrat ul Ebad Khan said upto 80 pecent progress has been made in eliminating culprits involved in terrorism, extortion, kidnapping for ransom and target killing. "This would continue till proper law and order situation is ensured and conducive environment for business activities is restored," he said in reply to a question raised by the course participants.
The Governor of Sindh said this is an acceptable fact that Karachi is the financial hub of the country and peace as well as tranquility here is bound to guarantee rapid economic growth of the country. "We all also know that prosperity and growth are closely linked to peace and this is being ensured through strenuous efforts of our law enforcing agencies (LEAs)," he said.
Lauding the services rendered by LEAs, Sindh Governor said they have shed their blood for security and safety of the masses not only in Karachi but wherever needed, across the country. Responding to another question about security of development projects funded and managed by foreign donor agencies, especially in the interior parts of Sindh, he said a special unit has been established within the provincial police department for the purpose.
"It works in close co-ordination with foreign consortiums engaged in development projects throughout the province," he said. In reply to a question about hurdles he faced during 13 years as Governor, he said there were many and that he always prioritised national interest.
The Governor of Sindh said power and energy sector were of special focus for the government and consequently marked reduction was registered in the span of load shedding. Loadshedding exempted areas in Karachi has been reduced from 70 percent to 17 percent and this has in return accelerated industrialisation in Karachi, he said.
To another question, he said there was no Master Plan for Karachi for a quite a long time and this, however, is presently in place and development work is underway in compliance to the plan. About his responsibilities as the Governor, Dr Ishrat said it is to ensure harmony and peace between people and provinces. Admiral Amjad Khan Niazi on the occasion informed the Sindh Governor that course is being attended by 69 officers of armed forces of Pakistan and of the allied forces.
