Lawyers have condemned Wednesday's terror attack on Bacha Khan University in Charsadda and expressed solidarity with the victims' families. The Pakistan Bar Council has already announced a nation-wide mourning day to condemn it. In a statement released on Wednesday, council Vice Chairman Azam Nazir Tarar told lawyers to stage protest meetings in their respective bar associations and wear black armbands while resuming their offices.
He then demanded that the federal and provincial governments to arrest the killers and punish them and blamed the failure of law enforcers. Also, the Supreme Court Bar Association President, Syed Ali Zafar, condemned the gruesome attack, saying the terrorists had "no faith and religion". "At the same time we must ensure that schools and universities are protected to reduce such attacks in the future," he said.
But there were more condemnations to follow as the Punjab Bar Council too followed suit and announced a complete strike in the province on Thursday (today). Vice Chairman, Farah Ejaz Baig, said in a statement that rallies and meetings would also be taken in the province. She said the attack could have been averted had the terrorists involved in the previous incidents been punished and demanded a raft of tighter security measures.
