In order to generate additional revenue through withholding taxes, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has conducted analysis of withholding taxes collected by each Large Taxpayer Unit (LTU) and Regional Tax Offices (RTO) for recovery of outstanding amount of withholding taxes in 2015-2016. In this regard, the FBR has issued instructions to the field formations here on Friday.
According to the FBR, reference to the Chief Commissioners' conference held on 7-8 January 2016, analysis of withholding tax performance reports of income tax and sales tax by each unit incharge of withholding tax from July to November, 2015 has been compiled by the FBR. The FBR said that an exercise of evaluating performance of each officer working as unit incharge of withholding unit (Income Tax and Sales tax) has been done for the period July to November 2015. The purpose is to encourage and identify good job done by some officers and stress upon the others to gear up their efforts.
In view thereof, list of officers who have performed better and those who need to put in more effort have been prepared mainly relying upon the following criteria: Number of WHT - analysis conducted and demand created/collected. The above list pertaining to each LTU/RTO alongwith a summary of LTU/RTO for the subject period has been dispatched by the FBR. It is requested that each officer working in withholding unit be stressed upon for recovery of outstanding Income Tax and Sales Tax demand created (Excluding stay) on account of withholding tax, FBR said.
In view thereof, the concerned Chief Commissioner is expected to personally look into it and take steps to pull up the officers whose performance is below par by using the KPIs circulated by the Board. It is to be noted that this matter will be one of the agenda item for the next review meetings, FBR added.
