Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday officially announced postponement of the LG by elections in the Khyber Pakthuknwa province for indefinite period in the wake of carnage at Bacha Khan University Charsadda. The new date for LG by polls would be announced in the light of the report of the KP Government, said a spokesman for the ECP here on Friday. As many as 828 candidates are in the run for various tiers of bye polls of LG government to be held in 23 district of the KP.
He informed that 443 candidates are contesting against 130 general seats of neighbourhood/village councils, 200 women in the field for seat reserved for women, 56 are trying their luck for Mazdoor/Kissan seats, 47 for youth seats and four for minorities seats. Similarly, 35 are in the run for general seats of seven wards of district councils and 43 are in the field for general seats in eight tehsil councils.
The ECP spokesman said that 574 candidates have already been elected unopposed including 61 candidates against village and neighbourhood councils, general seats, 467 women, four against Mazdoor/Kissan seats and eight against seats reserved for youth and 33 for minorities seats.
