Former information minister and Central Information Secretary of Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Qamar Zaman Kaira has said that defeating the extremist mindset was part of the National Action Plan (NAP) but it is a matter of grave concern that no measures have been taken for its implementation. Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, Qamar Zaman Kaira said that restoration of peace in the country was not possible until elimination of the elements who wanted to impose their agenda through ruthless use of power and arms.
He said that terrorist attack on Bacha Khan University (BKU) Charsadda has raised questions over the performance of the incumbent government in implementation of NAP in letter and spirit. The PPP leader said that raids on offices of banned organisations, arrests of their leaders and members over demands of India, was matter of concern. He criticised the free and unchecked movement of the head of the defunct organisations within the country.
Kaira said that entire nation, all three armed forces, law enforcement agencies (LEAs) of the country were engaged in ongoing war on terror but despite all this failure in rooting out of terrorism and extremist's mindset was matter of grave concern. He alleged that Lal Masjid administration was still struggling to impose its agenda which needed to be curbed with an iron hand. Commenting over the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Project, Kaira said that the project will benefit China more than Pakistan or any other regional country.
He said that in the prevailing circumstances it seems the government has lost its writ at all. The PPP Secretary Information also criticised the Interior Ministry Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan for his role of 'silent spectator' over Charsadda attack and urged him to come out of hibernation. Kaira also claimed that CPEC, TAPI and LNG projects were initiated by PPP government during its tenure but the sitting government was taking the credit of said projects which is highly condemnable. However, he said that PPP will support the government in every project launched in the interests of country and its people.
