Currency dealers continued their protest for eleven consecutive day and burnt tyres at Chowk Yadgar against the sealing of the currency market in the city. Besides, the subsidiary associations of Currency Sarafa Association including Anjuman-e-Tajiran, Sarafa and Jewellers Association, Gold Smith Workers Union, bazaars associations of Namak Mandi, Dalgaran, and Abresham Garan also participated in the protest demo.
Addressing the protesters, Haji Mohammad Haleem Jan and Malik Meher Elahi said that the business at currency market is closed since last eleven days and 8000 families linked with the business have been deprived of the livelihood. But, the concerned authorities have become silent spectators to the issue.
They demanded of the administration to resolve the issue through the peace mean of negotiations and termed the sealing of the market as no solution. They demanded the de-sealing of the market and businesses and searching out of a lawful resolution of the issue. On this occasion, leaders of currency dealers called for the withdrawal of the authority of the issuance from 'Category A' franchise to issue them licenses on soft conditions and fee from its own booth and enable them to continue their business activities within the framework of law.
They said that they should be issued currency exchange license on the pattern of those issues to five, four and three star hotels. They said that till acceptance of the demands their protest will continue and announced in case their demands were not accepted then on January 27 (Wednesday), they will staged a big protest rally march to Peshawar Press Club (PPC).
