Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Hyderabad chapter's general secretary Pir Manzoor Ali has lambasted the Sindh Government for its plan to give 219 public sector hospitals under the control of non-governmental organisations (NGOs). "Paramedics have begun staging province-wide demonstrations to protest against the Sindh government's plan to hand over the management of 219 healthcare centers, including Basic Health Units (BHUs), Rural Health Clinics (RHCs), Taluka Health Units (THUs) and District Headquarter Hospitals (DHQs) to different NGOs," he told reporters on Sunday.
PMA's official warned that the PMA would not accept the privatisation of public sector hospitals because the plan was not aimed at protecting health facilities. He said that Sindh government's plan had created uncertainty among doctors, nurses and paramedics.
Pir Manzoor Ali demanded of the government to revoke the plan without any delay, or else their protest would continue across the province.
