Message from General Secretary (2015-2016) Karachi Customs Agents Association
Pakistan Customs, like all other Customs administrations of the world, is celebrating the International Customs Day on January 26, 2016. I extend my warm felicitations to all officers and officials of Pakistan Customs on this special day. The concepts of Customs operations are developed in accordance with the latest economic developments taking place around the world. Role of Customs is not restricted to collecting duty and taxes on goods and guarding sea and land frontiers, but also involves trade facilitation and breathing life into the economy by securing the supply chain.
This day has been chosen by the WCO as a time to commemorate the values role played by customs administrations world-wide in the protection of national borders from contraband as well as the facilitation of legitimate trade. The WCO is dedicating 2016 to promoting use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) under the slogan "Digital Customs: Progressive Engagement" which clearly emphasises on concentration towards the connectivity encapsulate strengthened co-ordination, cooperation and communication between Customs administrations with other Government agencies and institutions and sharing information for better cooperation with the other private sector at national, regional and international level.
International Customs Day is always a pleasant reminder of the significant role that Pakistan Customs play in facilitating international trade through promoting national interests simultaneously. Pakistan Customs being fully aware of the responsibility in meeting national and international standard required in view of its role has always taken a lead in development of basic infrastructure, software and system developments and updated training of its staff.
Moreover, Pakistan Customs being an active member of the International Customs facility interacts with customs organisations of the other countries under the aegis's of the World Customs Organisations. This interaction helps support the smooth and lawful flow of goods, service people, technologies, capital, culture and ideas. This connectivity and communication with the international organisations paves way for modernisation and economic development of the country.
There is no doubt that Karachi Customs Agents Association is the most proactive Association in Pakistan having more than 3000 members who are playing a vital role in a accumulating the budget targets fixed by FBR time to time. In the end, I on behalf of myself and Karachi Customs Agents Association congratulate all officers and officials of Pakistan Customs on this special day of international importance and wish that the department will continue its commitment in achieving revenue targets, facilitating trade and passenger traffic.
