A unique kind of drive for broadening the tax base has been launched by Regional Tax Office (RTO) Rawalpindi with active participation of young undergraduate students, who visited prominent business centres of the city, pursuing new businessmen to get register and pay due taxes.
It is learnt that the exercise, which is first of its kind as it took on board the students of renowned schools for creating tax awareness amongst the potential taxpayers. In collaboration with the officers/officials of BTB Zone, RTO Rawalpindi, the students belonging to different campuses of a School System RWP participated as Ambassadors of BTB in this campaign, demonstrating their patriotic zeal, national fervour and keen sense of achievement.
The students divided into different teams visited Commercial Areas of Bahria Town, Phase 7 & 8 and Pak PWD Society, Rawalpindi, along with officials of Inland Revenue Service. The students handed over especially designed motivating pamphlets to the businessmen in these areas and urged them to get themselves registered with the tax authorities and pay the due taxes as it is their national obligation.
This exclusive campaign has been launched by RTO Rawalpindi with the aim to broaden the tax base and develop a workable soft strategy whereby businessmen are being approached by the young students instead of traditional divisive approaches. It was over all a four-hour field activity in which not only the students demonstrated a high sense of commitment to the national cause but the taxpayers also gave positive response and reflected a higher level of acceptance to this unique idea. This was the first phase of the campaign and RTO Rawalpindi intends to cover other commercial areas as well in the up coming phases of the campaign. Similar exercises are being planned for the Districts & areas of Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Wah/Taxila and Talagang. It is pertinent to mention here that worthy FTO has also appreciated this innovative initiative by RTO RWP, sources added.
