The Met Office Monday forecast rain with snowfall in mountainous region in the present week, saying that the rainy spell was likely to dissipate fog in upcountry. It said that the dense fog that had gripped the upcountry would end following the rain, especially in the Potohar region of the country. With one existing, another weather system is expected to enter the country in next two days.
"A westerly wave is likely to enter in upper parts of the country in next couple of days that will produce isolated light rain and snowfall over the hills of Malakand, Hazara divisions, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir," it forecast.
The active westerly wave is expected to grip the western and upper parts of the country on Thursday to produce rain with snowfall over the hills on Thursday and Friday, the office added.
Under the influence of the active weather system, Islamabad, Quetta, Kalat, Zhob, Sibbi, Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Gujranwala, Lahore, Faisalabad and Sahiwal divisions, besides FATA, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir are likely to receive scattered rain and DG Khan, Multan and Bahawalpur divisions light rain and mountains snowfall over the period.
Heavy snowfall is very likely to cover hills in Murree, Galliyat and Neelum Valley) from Thursday evening to Friday night. The expected rainy spell in the rain-dependent areas of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhawa is likely to help grow the standing wheat crop.
