Pakistan has urged Afghanistan to take action against the perpetrators of the Bacha Khan University carnage and cooperate with its authorities to bring the terrorists to justice, as top Afghan diplomat was summoned to convey concerns over the use of Afghan soil by terrorists for the attack.
"The Afghan Charge d'Affaire, Syed Abdul Nasir Yousafi, was called to the Foreign Office yesterday (Monday) to convey Pakistan's concern regarding the use of Afghan soil by certain terrorist elements in the recent terrorist attack on Bacha Khan University in Charsadda on 20 January 2016," the Foreign Office said in a statement.
The statement said that the Afghan envoy was told that investigations have revealed that handlers of the Bacha Khan University terrorist act were operating from Afghan territory and used Afghan telecommunication network for planning and executing this attack. In this regard, the relevant details have already been shared with the Afghan side, it added.
"The government of Afghanistan was urged to take action against the perpetrators of this heinous act of terrorism and extend cooperation to Pakistani authorities to bring them to justice at the earliest possible," the statement further stated.
On 20 January 2016, four heavily armed terrorists launched an attack on the university, killing 22 students and a teacher and injuring 22 others. A day later, Army Chief General Raheel Sharif telephoned Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, chief executive Abdullah Abdullah and commander of Resolute Support Mission and United States Forces in Afghanistan General John Campbell to share the details of the investigations and also asked them to cooperate in tracing the attackers. A leader of the outlawed TTP Darra Admakhel chapter Omar Mansoor claimed responsibility for the university attack who had also masterminded the December 16, 2014 Army Public School attack in Peshawar, killing more than 140 students.
