Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah Tuesday called upon the government to order judicial inquiries into militant attacks on Bacha Khan University and Peshawar's Army Public School (APS). Khursheed Shah stated that federal interior minister Chaudhry Nisar has already told the parliament that the implementation of National Action Plan (NAP) is not his responsibility.
Shah, who is a senior leader of Pakistan People's Party (PPP), urged the ruling PML-N to effectively enforce the National Action Plan (NAP) and order a judicial probe into the deadly militant attacks. While talking to media persons outside his chamber, Khursheed Shah accused Chaudhry Nisar of not carrying out NAP properly. "The government should give an answer as to why NAP is not being implemented," he said, asking "who is responsible for it?"
He said that everyone including India's Prime Minister Modi has condemned the Bacha Khan University attack but the interior minister has not even bothered to visit the institution. He said Nisar perhaps did not have courage to see the hatred in the eyes of bereaved families. Shah urged the authorities to form a judicial commission over the massacres of Army Public School (APS) and Bacha Khan University.
The opposition leader lashed out at the government for "mismanagement" in military courts as only 60 cases have been sent to them so far while the affectees are still depending on higher officials for justice. Talking about anti-terrorism operations against outlawed organisations, he said that NAP implemented only in Sindh but no action is being taken in other provinces. Shah lauded Army Chief Raheel Sharif for not seeking extension in his tenure. Responding to a question related to tension between Saudi Arabia and Iran, he said that no headway has been made by the Pakistani government in this regard.
