United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has expressed his condolences on the demise of Sahabzada Yaqub Khan, a former Pakistan foreign minister who also worked for the UN. "The secretary-general was saddened to learn of the death of Sahabzada Yaqub Khan, a prominent Pakistani politician, diplomat and a high-ranking general, who held many senior military and government positions in the Pakistan Government," Deputy Spokesman Farhan Haq said in a statement.
The statement said, "Yaqub Khan served as Foreign Minister of Pakistan from 1982 to 1991 and then from 1996 to 1997. He was Pakistan's Ambassador to the United States, Soviet Union and France. He also served with the United Nations in Nicaragua to help end the civil war and in Western Sahara as the Special Representative of the Secretary-General. "The Secretary-General wishes to convey his deep condolences to Yaqub Khan's family and the Government of Pakistan."
