Sheema Khan declared best athlete of the year-2016 as Jinnah College for Women (JCW) clinched the overall trophy of the University of Peshawar Inter-College Girls Games concluded here at JCW premises on Wednesday. Minister for Excise and Taxation KP Mian Jamshed Uddin and Secretary Parliament P&D Mian Khaliq-ur-Rehman graced the occasion as guests of honor.
Vice Chancellor (VC) University of Peshawar Professor Dr Rasul Jan, Principal of Jinnah College for Women University of Peshawar Professor Dr Shazia Babar, Director Sports, Bhare Karam, Deputy Director and Organizing Secretary of the Games Miss Jaman Gul, officials, players and large number of vociferous student spectators were also present. Sheema Khan of JCW grabbed three gold medals in the 100m, 200m and long jump and being the fastest athlete was declared as best athlete with 21 points, followed by Anum of the same with 18 points as she took gold medal in Javelin throw, silver medal in 200m and bronze medals in 400m race and discuss throw.
Fatima of PG UoP secured 16 points with two silver medals in 400, and discuss throw and bronze medals in 100m and shot put. Reema of FEF Girls College Nahai won gold medal in 400m and silver medal in long jump, Sumair of FEF Nahaqi secured 12 points with gold medal in shot put and silver medal in javelin throw, Naila of JCW won gold medal in discuss, Haseena of Nahaqi won silver medal in 100m, Maha of JCW won bronze medal in shot put, Zargona of JCW won bronze medal in long jump and Wagma Qazi won bronze medal in long jump.
JCW secured 50 points in athletes and won the athletic trophy, followed by FEF Nahazir with 32 points and Post Graduate Department with 23 points. JCW also won overall Games trophy by securing first position in TT, Basketball, Cricket, Volleyball, Handball and remained runners-up in badminton. PG Department secured first position in Badminton and remained second in TT, Cricket and got third position in basketball, and handball. FEF Nahaqi got second position in handball and got third position in cricket, volleyball. Colleges affiliated with UoP took part in the month long Games.
Speaking on this occasion Mian Jamshed Uddin lauded Directorate of Sports UoP for regularly involving the students in healthy sports activities. He termed such activities very importance for the male and female students as a healthy mind resides in healthy body.
He also appreciated VC UoP for taking keen interest in supporting the students to take active part in sports activities that teams them tolerance, brotherhood, discipline and above all vital for character building. He said through such activities it would help finding out new talent in different games as school, colleges and higher educational institutions are the basic sources of find talent. Earlier, the Annual Day Sports started with the recitation from Holy Quran by Hafiza Shaista Noor, a B.A Part-I student, followed by national anthem and a minute silence to pay homage for the martyrs' of Bacha Khan University.
