Secretary Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Najam Ahmad Shah has said that the main focus of healthcare delivery system is to provide better medical care to the people. "Nurses play a pivotal role in providing treatment facilities to the patients in the hospitals and due to their noble humanitarian services, they have respect and honour in the society," Shah said this while addressing a certificate distribution ceremony among the position holders nursing students in the annual examination of Nursing Examination Board Punjab, here on Friday.
Najam said that every step would be taken for the development of nursing profession, improvement of service structure, capacity-building of teachers and uplifting of educational standard of nurses but main purpose of all these efforts should be to ensure better healthcare facilities for the public and those who will render their services to achieve this goal would be patronised and encouraged. He said that the purpose of education is not only to get degree or position but to grow as a better human being too.
Director General Health Punjab, Dr Mukhtar Hussain Syed was of the view to improve nursing sector and capacity building of the teachers. He urged for early disposal of pending promotion cases of nurses. He also said that more job opportunities should be created for nurses. Earlier, Controller Nursing Examination Board Punjab, Zubaida Zawar Khan informed that all the pending diploma cases since 2010 have been disposed off and diplomas have been issued and there is no pending case with the examination board.
She further informed that the system of examination board has been computerised and all the information made available online. She said that related information is available on the website and the students have no need to come Lahore for registration. She said that examination centres have been increased from 10 to 17 to facilitate the nursing students in their nearby city. DG Nursing Nusrat Saeeda, principals of different nursing schools, chief nursing superintendents, teachers and a large number of nursing students attended the function.
Secretary Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Najam Ahmad Shah distributed certificates and cash awards to the top position holder nurses. The position holder nurses belonged to the nursing schools of Children Hospital Lahore, Mayo hospital, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Lahore General Hospital, Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Lahore, Ittefaq Hospital, Sheikh Zayed Hospital Rahim Yar Khan, Sahiwal and Bahawalpur.
