Up to December 2015 figures: number of mobile phone users rises to 125.899 million: PTA
Number of mobile phone users in Pakistan reached 125.899 million up to the end of December 2015, after five mobile phone companies added a combined user base of 1.65 million customers during the reported month, according to data released by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), here Friday. Mobilink leads the charts with 36.21 million customers while Telenor is closing in the gap with 34.93 million subscribers. However, after planned merger of Mobilink and Warid, Mobilink will be able to widen the lead with more than 46 million post-merger customers.
Zong has 24.13 million customers at the end of December 2015 while Ufone stood with 19.93 million customers till the time. Warid has a total of 10.69 million customers. However the data shows that the number of 3G/4G users reached 23.65 million by December, 2015 as compared to 21.68 million by November 2015, showing a reasonable growth in modern mobile broadband services with each passing month.
According to the authority the number of 4G (Zong) users jumped from 254,122 subscribers in November 2015 to 282,701 million subscribers in December 2015 during the period under review. According to the PTA, the number of Zong, Mobilink, Ufone and Telenor reached 4,752,974, 7,248,761, 4,293,739 and 6,373,498 3G users respectively by December 2015. Warid LTE subscribers reached 214,046 during this period. Mobile teledensity increased from 64.6 percent to 65.3 percent and Broadband subscribers increased from 24,785,830 to 26,293,394 during the period under review.
