Sindh education officials and subject experts gathered at a conference organised by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)-funded Sindh Reading Program (SRP) and Pakistan Reading Project (PRP) to refine reading performance standards for first and second grade students in Sindh Province.
USAID is supporting the Government of Sindh's initiative to improve the quality of reading instruction in Sindhi and Urdu. The new reading performance standards will be used to enhance classroom instruction, develop textbooks and curricula, and measure students' performance.
A series of regional and district workshops resulted in the draft reading performance standards discussed on Friday. The draft standards now will be presented to the Sindh Ministry of Education for formal approval and piloting in selected schools. These efforts are a part of USAID's $165 million, government-to-government Sindh Basic Education Program which includes a $10 million contribution from the Sindh Government. Through this program, the US government supports the implementation of the Sindh Education Sector Plan 2014-18.-PR
