Frontier College for Women (FCW) lifted the overall trophy after securing 3 gold, two silver and three bronze medals with 80 points in the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University (SBBWU) Inter-College Girls Judo Championship which concluded here at University campus premises Friday.
Former World Champion in Squash Qamar Zaman was the chief guest on this occasion. Vice Chancellor SBBWU Professor Dr Razia Sultana, former Pakistan hockey team coach Abdul Rauf, Secretary Pakistan Judo Federation Masood Ahmad, Foreign Coach National Judo team Sajjad Kazmi, his Mrs Ameen Jawani, SAF Golf medallist Humera Ashaq, national judo camp players Irum, Maryum, Aqsa, Ambareen, Shumaila, Director Sports SBBWU Maria Samin, coaches Salma Faiz, Roheena Tabasum, Shaista Khan, Miss Farhad Sami, Suria Khan, Miss Najma Qazi, Miss Gul Sanobar, Miss Ghazala, players and large number of girls spectators were also present.
For Frontier College Kainat won gold medal in -48kg, Saima Khan in -52kg and Wafa Din in open weight category, two silver when Saba in -44kg and Saira in -70kg grabbed the medals and three bronze medals. Shaheed Banazir Bhutto Women University got 55 points by taking second position behind FCW with. Maria took gold medal in -70kg, followed by three silver medals in -40kg, -57kg and -63 kg besides two bronze medals. Pabbi got third position with 45 points, winning two gold medal, one silver and three bronze medal while GG Nowhsera also recorded 45 points with one gold, two silver and two bronze medals.
Former World Champion Qamar Zaman lauded the efforts of the VC for organising various female sports activities. He said sports' is essential part of the academic and appreciated VC for taking keen interest in involving the students in healthy sports activities.
Qamar Zaman also promised to talk to the Governor KP Sardar Mehtab Ahmad Khan and Chief Minister KP Pervez Khattak for the construction of a squash court in the premises of SBBWU so that the female students would also come up at national and international levels in squash.
He also announced to organise a female tournament for the students and all the affiliated colleges of SBBWU in PAF Hashim Khan Squash Complex while all expenses will be borne out by KP Squash Association. Earlier, in her welcome address, VC Professor Dr Razia Sultana said that she had talked with the Chief Minister KP Pervez Khattak to allocate special fund for the University to have its activities for the female students and hopefully CM will give a position response.
