T20 cricket team skipper Shahid Afridi met Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, here on Saturday and discussed matters pertaining to promotion of cricket in the country. Other matters of mutual interest also came under discussion. Sources claim that Afridi apprised the Chief Minister about Pakistan team's preparations from mega event (Twenty20 World Cup) being staged in India.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that cricket is very popular game of Pakistan and there is a lot of talent of this game in the country. He said that Pakistani cricketers have won laurels for the country on a number of occasions at international level. He said that Pakistani players are great ambassadors of the country. The Chief Minister said that game should be taken as a game. He said that sportsman spirit is the real essence of the game. He said that promotion of games is essential for the establishment of a healthy society and the Punjab government has taken effective measures for this purpose.
Shahbaz Sharif said that promotion of sports is proving helpful in enhancing healthy activities and eliminating trends of extremism, that is why, the Punjab government is promoting sports activities. He said that games play a vital role in highlighting soft image of any country. He said that huge funds are being provided for the promotion of healthy activities and sports in the province. He said that all out facilities will be provided for the promotion of games including cricket in future as well.
