Stressing the need for bolstering Pak-Afghan relations, Qaumi Watan Party Chairman, Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao said the dream of durable peace could only come true in the region when the both neighbouring countries should come on the same page. He called for minimising the trust-deficit between Pakistan and Afghanistan and jointly moving forward peace process.
"Peaceful and stable Afghanistan is in interest of Pakistan and the rest of the region," he opined.
He said the merging of Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is vital for establishment of peace and obtaining Pakhtuns' rights, adding the merger would also ensure due rights of tribesmen, besides bringing positive impacts and change in social-fabric of tribal society.
He was speaking at a public gathering in Sherpao, district Charsadda on Sunday, which also attended by QWP provincial chairman, Sikandar Hayat Khan Sherpao, Special Assistant to Chief Minister on Technical Education, Arshad Khan Umarzai, notables of the area and party activists in a large number.
The QWP chief said Pakhtuns and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been facing menace of terrorism for the last several decades and a large number of people rendered their lives, whereas the economic, social, and trade activities had become standstill in the Pakhuns region, increasing unemployment, backwardness and poverty.
He urged the federal government to extend full benefits of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project to the people of KP and Fata.
Sherpao said it should ensure initiation of work on western route as per commitment and focus on establishment of industrial zones, transmission lines, LNG, optic fiber along with construction of alternative routes under the CPEC.
Earlier, speaking on the occasion, the QWP provincial chairman, and KP Senior Minister, Sikandar Khan Sherpao said Pakhtuns are passing through critical phase, therefore, he stressed the need for forging unity and brotherhood among Pakhtuns.
He said the QWP is only political force, which has raised voice for Pakhtuns at every forum and vowed it would continue efforts till bringing everlasting peace, development and prosperity on Pakhtuns soil.
Special Assistant to Chief Minister, on Technical Education, Arshad Khan Umarzai also addressed the gathering.
