CM says ready to send requisition for extension in Rangers' policing powers
Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah on Monday assured Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan that the Sindh government would send a requisition to the federal government for extension in the Rangers' special powers today (Tuesday). An official said the Interior Minister telephoned Chief Minister Sindh and both the leaders exchanged views regarding extension of Sindh Rangers powers following a high-level meeting.
Khan told the Chief Minister that the extension granted to the paramilitary force in Sindh is going to expire in the next few days; therefore it would be better to issue a notification through a joint consultation in order to give a positive message about the Karachi operation.
"I agree with your proposal and the provincial government of Sindh after today's cabinet meeting would send a requisition in this regard to the federal government today (Tuesday)", Shah said, adding, the wording of the requisition would certainly give a positive message. The official quoted the Chief Minister as reminding the Interior Minister that his invitation to the Khan for a visit to Karachi is still pending.
Interior Minister informed Shah that he would pay a visit to Karachi anytime soon but prior to the visit it is important to issue a notification with respect to Rangers' powers. Khan further told Shah that he would make efforts to address the reservations of the Sindh government in connection with the Karachi operation.
