The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) will meet on Monday (February 8) to discuss 20 development projects with an estimated cost of Rs 92.96 billion, it is learnt. According to sources, the CDWP would discuss as many as 6 development projects of transport and communication, 3 development projects of water resources, 2 projects of physical planning and housing, 5 projects of Higher Education Commission and one project each of energy, science and technology, environment and governance.
According to the agenda of the CDWP meeting, 5 development projects of Transport and Communication: (i) Procurement of 58 Diesel Electric Locomotives (revised) of Rs 16.3 billion, (ii) Infrastructure Development of Gwadar Industrial Estate Development Authority (500 acres), Rs 1.73 billion, (iii) Improvement and Widening of Jaglot-Skardu road (S-1), Rs 39.74 billion, (iv) Upgradation of Terminal Facilities at Dry Ports , 1.02 billion, (v) Construction of Fish Landing Jetty and allied Harbour Works at Pishukan-East Bay Gwadar Rs 1869.3 million and Construction of Fish Landing Jetty and allied Harbour Works at Surbandar-East Gwadar at an estimated cost of Rs 1650.342 million.
About the development projects of Ministry of Water and Power, the meeting is scheduled to discuss Lower Indus Right Bank Irrigation and Drainage Project (LIRBP) (Stage-1) of Rs 17.51 billion, feasibility study of Akhori Dam Project, Rs 286.85 million and construction of Palai/Sanam Dam Project in multiple districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhawa, Rs 944.67 million.
Development projects of Higher Education Commission including development of the University of Balochistan, Quetta of Rs 1.1 billion, Strengthening and Enhancement of Academic Provision in Faculty of Life and Environmental Sciences, Rs 547.22 million, Prime Minister's Merit Scholarships for top position holders enrolled at Pakistani Universities, Rs 5.43 billion, Establishment of Upgrading of Core Engineering Department in Mardan Campus of UET Peshawar, Rs 1.38 billion and Strengthening of Academic and Research Program of Mehran University of Engineering and Technology Jamshoro of Rs 927.15 million.
The CDWP would discuss two projects of Physical Planning and Housing including Construction of Complex for National Highway and Motorway Police at Rahim Yar Khan of Rs 167.22 million and Construction of Residential and Non Residential Building for Force HQ GB Scouts and 112 Wing at Skardu.
The meeting would discuss the following projects: (i) Rehabilitation of NTDC system in South Area for improvement in system reliability to avoid the frequent tripping at a cost of Rs 1.06 billion, (ii) Capacity building in design assessment & analysis to ensure safety of Nuclear Power Plants (NPPs) in Pakistan at a cost of Rs 296.9 million; (iii) Carbon Neutral Pakistan at a cost of Rs 313.96 million; (iv) Environment, establishment of Special Project Cell (SPC) in the Planning Commission at a cost of Rs 72.37 million; and (v) Establishment of Cardiac Care Center at AIMS, Muzaffarabad at an estimated cost Rs 393.24 million.
