Khyber Medical University (KMU) and Dairy Science Park (DSP) have entered into a collaboration through "Biorisk Management under Livestock Entrepreneurship (BMLE)" and signed an MoU for evaluating the biorisk factors associated with commercial livestock and poultry farming, transportation, slaughtering, processing and marketing of farm products, the associated veterinary clinical practices and their relationship with human health.
The MoU was signed by Dr Zia-Ul-Haq, Director Office of Research Innovation & Commercialisation (ORIC), KMU and Professor Dr Muhammad Subhan Qureshi, Chief Patron DSP/Dean FAHVS Agriculture University Peshawar.VC KMU Professor Dr Mohammad Hafizullah was also present at the occasion. According to the MoU, the main objectives of this project is to help safeguard the health of students, biomedical professionals (including laboratory staff, public and animal health workers), and the community, to develop standards and legislative guidelines for farming and processing units and service providers as they relate to dangerous and/or infectious pathogens, to strengthen interdisciplinary linkages in bio-risk management, to support improvement of animal health through biorisk management, improved diagnostic methods and surveillance designed to improve the health of the animal population and to create a leading institution to provide assistance to other similar institutions on the implementation of biorisk management curriculum.
The MoU has also proposed an action plan for the year 2016 whereas the total estimated cost of the project will be Rs 49,80000/-. According to the details of the MoU the solar water pumps will be installed and other inputs will be provided to the registered farms and stakeholders and the cost will be recovered in easy instalments under Islamic Leasing arrangement under supervision of the Sharia Adviser of the Dairy Science Park and Revenue will be generated through charging services, registration and issuance of Quality Control Parameters Certificates to the stakeholders for sustainability of the project.
