Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has said that the provincial government is going to appoint more than 300 staff including specialists, doctors, paramedics, et cetera, to begin indoor services in Jacobabad Institute of Health Science (JIHS). "The people of Sindh consider this project as a great US gift and service to the people of Northern areas of Sindh."
Syed Qaim Ali Shah expressed these views during his meeting with US Consul General Brian Heath and Deputy Mission and Director USAID and Project Director Sindh and Balochistan Craig Buck who called on him at the CM House on Friday. Minister for Health Jam Mehtan Dahar and Secretary Health Saeed Mangnjo also attended the meeting. "The building of 150-bed JIHS is a unique one and its OPD is working properly. It helped reduce growing work load on Civil Hospital Jacobabad," Chief Minister said expressing thanks to the US.
The US Consul General said he was very much satisfied with the working of the hospital. He said he was keen to see its indoor activities so that patients could be admitted there. On this the chief minister said that preparations were afoot to recruit specialists, doctors, paramedics and other staff so that indoor activities could begin. Commenting over grievances of people of Tharparkar, Qaim Ali Shah said that over 1.6 million people were living in the desert area and their issue was social and cultural.
"Despite our limited resources, we have developed the area, established more Basic Health Units, dispensaries, upgraded taluka hospitals and have equipped Mithi Civil hospital with necessary facilities," he said.
He said early-age marriages, births without gap and nutrition of mothers and child have been identified root causes of present problematic situation. He said his government was trying hard the permanent solution of the problem. "Sindh government has installed 400 RO plants to provide them safe and clean water. 400 RO plants are not enough for the area but at least 700 RO plants are required to cater the needs," he said. The Consul General and USAID Director said that they were working on Thar and would help the government to further improve the situation in the district.
