Speakers at a seminar while emphasising the need for early resolution of Kashmir issue as per United Nations (UN) Resolutions of 1948 and 1949 and aspirations of Kashmiris have assured that Pakistan will keep supporting just cause of the Kashmiri people.
The event organised by Youth Forum for Kashmir (YFK) and attended by a large number of students from various higher education institutions across the country. The speakers noted that the lasting peace in the world, especially, in the South Asian region can't be guaranteed unless Kashmir issue is resolved.
"We are gathered here from leading universities of Pakistan and Azad Kashmir to send a message to our brothers and sisters in occupied Kashmir that we stand by them in all the circumstance," they resolved. YFK is Pakistan's first pro-Kashmir, registered and non-partisan international lobbying group led by young Kashmiris and Pakistanis working to ensure justice to Kashmiris living under Indian military occupation.
The event's theme summarised what Pakistan's government, political parties, public opinion and especially the youth want to say to the younger generation of Kashmiris growing up under the seven-decade old Indian military occupation. And the message is: Pakistan Stands by You. Rawalpindi Arts Council (RAC) and YFK displayed some of the best art work that Pakistani and Kashmiri artists submitted as part of a Kashmir Solidarity Day art competition. Judges picked up three best paintings that depict the affinity between Pakistan and Kashmiris.
They said that the Secretary General of the United Nations must encourage, facilitate and support efforts leading to a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir issue in accordance with the UN Security Council Resolutions, as well as exercise the mandate entrusted by Charter of the United Nations and under relevant international instruments to safeguard the fundamental rights and freedom of the oppressed Kashmiri people. "It was the obligation of the world community to ensure a UN sponsored plebiscite in Kashmir according to the wishes of the people of Kashmir. We recalled that the complaint relating to Kashmir was initiated by India in the Security Council; however, India is reluctant to implement the resolution for past 67 years", Altaf Hussian Wani, senior leader of All Parties Hurriyat Conference in his remarks said. Speaking on the occasion, former ambassador Masood Khan stressed that the peace loving people around the world were concerned about the sufferings of the Kashmir people.
