Two obscure web browsers have beaten many of the internet giants in a test performed by a major European computer magazine. The little-known browsers Maxthon and Opera finished second and third, respectively, in a review of six programs by the PC Magazin publication of Germany.
The winning browser was Mozilla's Firefox in a study of usability, security and technical aspects such as stability and speed. Firefox scored 84 of a possible 100 points while Maxthon and Opera both collected 77 points.
Google's Chrome was fourth with 74 points, followed by Vivaldi with 70 points, while Microsoft's Edge - the successor to Internet Explorer - was last with 53 points.
While Firefox excelled in usability and many add-on possibilities, the Mozilla browser finished behind both Maxthon and Opera in terms of security and technical evaluation.
