Commercial use of residential area: Supreme Court summons chiefs of Islamabad police, NH&MP

The Supreme Court on Wednesday asked Chief Police Officer Islamabad and Inspector General National Highways & Motorway Police (NH&MP) to appear in person before the court in commercial usage of residential area case. Appearing before a two-member bench led by Justice Iqbal Hameedur Rehman in the case, an official of Capital Development Authority (CDA) submitted a report in pursuance of the court's earlier directives in the matter.
The CDA report disclosed that the Authority had asked the offices of both the Inspector Generals to close their offices in residential area but the IGP Islamabad office has sought one year time for shifting the office. Seeking more time to implement the court orders in the current case, the CDA apprised that all the violators have been issued notices, adding that follow-up action was also underway. The report further submitted that offices and beauty parlors in 123 residential areas in the Capital have been sealed while some 225 owners of business outlets have voluntarily abandoned their business activities.
Similarly, the report stated that the foreign office has been informed about the blockade made by the offices of foreign missions for security purpose in residential areas of the capital. It added that the Islamabad High Court had issued stay orders in the cases filed by the private schools in the capital.
