Following the announcement of Rs 3 per unit reduction in the industrial tariff by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, the Ministry of Water and Power has notified a support package for industrial consumers. According to the notification, a copy of which is available with Business Recorder, a reduction of Rs 3 per unit shall be inclusive of any downward revision of Fuel Price Adjustment notified in or after January 2016 and onwards.
Furthermore, the difference between the relevant payment due from industrial consumers and special relief package notified and adjusted with any downward revision of Fuel Prime Adjustment shall be paid to Discos and K-Electric by the federal government. Here is the detailed notification issued by the Ministry of Water and Power on 4th February 2016.
"In pursuance of Section 31 of the Regulation of Generation, Transmission and Distribution of Electric Power Act, 2997 (XL if 1997) and, inter alia, for maintaining uniform rates of electric power for each of consumer category of XWDISCOs and K-Electric, the Federal Government has already notified the electricity tariff, subject to and along with amount of subsidy and surcharges for XWDISCOs vide SRO Nos. 566(I)/2015 to 575(I)/2015 dated the 10 June 2015 in addition Fuel Price Adjustment Mechanism has also been notified as Annex-II and SRO Nos. 11(I)/2010 dated January 01, 2010 for K-Electric.
In order to further rationalise the payments that XWDISCOs and K-Electric are to receive from its industrial consumers per above, it is hereby notified that with effect from 1 January, 2016 payment for the industrial consumers of all XWDISCOs and K-Electric be reduced by Rs 3/kWh, which reduction shall be inclusive of any downward revision of Fuel Price Adjustment notified in or after January 2016 and onwards. The difference between the relevant payment due from industrial consumer per SRO vide SRO Nos. 566(I)/2015 to 575(I)/2015 dated the 10th of June 2015 and SRO Nos. 11(I)/2010 dated January 01, 2010 for K-Electric and special relief package notified hereunder adjusted with any downward revision of Fuel Price Adjustment as above shall be paid to XWDISCOs and K-Electric by the Federal Government per the notification for rationalisation of process of payment of subsidy. Provided that this notification unless modified or withdrawn earlier by the Federal Government shall continue to remain in field till notification or new tariff for XWDISCOs and K-Electric."
