The Romanian ambassador says his country is willing to cement business, educational and cultural relations with Pakistan. Diplomat Emilian Ion talking to Lahore Chamber Senior Vice President Almas Hyder on Saturday said, "Pakistan is a resourceful country. It has all weathers, vast fertile land, best quality fruits and vegetable. Romanian investors are keen to step in joint ventures with their Pakistani counterparts."
"Consulates, business council friends of the Romania Group have been established in Pakistan to strengthen mutual economic ties. Exchange of delegations between Romania and Pakistan can help boost the bilateral trade volume which at the moment does not match the potential exist in the two countries."
Senior Vice President Hyder said, "Although mutual trade between the two countries has jumped up to $193.2 million in 2014 from $114.8 million in 2012, a lot of work still has to be done as both countries have potential to double the existing trade volume. Pakistan mainly exports to Romania consist of woven fabric, guts of animal, polymers of styrene, bed and kitchen linen, matches and electro-medical apparatus. Major imports from Romania to Pakistan are colza seeds, sunflower seeds and wood in finished and rough form, petroleum oils, wheat and ball bearing.
"As the major section of Romanian economy is in the hands of private sector, therefore, we will definitely like to seek your assistance to interact with our Romanian counterparts on frequent basis," he added. He also praised the Romanian engineering industry, saying it was a major contributor towards the economic growth of that country. "In Pakistan, there is a strong potential and need for investment and transfer of technology in the engineering sector," he added.
