Instagram launches parent's guide to help them with their teens

For parents not having much knowledge about today’s social media sites, Instagram has introduced a parent portal to help them guide through the app, teach internet safety and talk about it with their teens.

Instagram launched a parent-oriented section on its Well Being site yesterday. The section is aimed to guide parents through Instagram, its privacy settings and content control in order to make them understand it and talk to their children about it.

The portal walks parents through information such as how to make an account private or public, how to block accounts, and introduces them to the timer system to keep track of how much time the children spend on the app.

“We know that as a parent it may be hard to understand the changing digital landscape and what your kids are doing online. That’s why we’ve created this resource. We’re here to fill you in on what Instagram is all about, give you some conversation starters for you and your teen and show you some of the tools that are in place to keep your teen safe,” the portal read.

It also suggests some teen accounts that parents could suggest to their kids for serving as a positive role model and offers some prompts to get an Instagram conversation started. It encourages parents to question their teens about mental well being as a result of online comments, how well they know their followers and what to post, wrote Tech Crunch.

Though there are no new features, the company is just aiming to help parents explore the online world. It also makes it clear that the social media app has a great impact on teen’s social lives, both positively and negatively.
