The Bacha Khan University in Charsadda reopened on Monday after a 26-day hiatus owing to security concerns following a terror attack on campus that left 21 students and a staff member dead and many injured. Enhanced security measures had been put in place at the university. Police and other security agencies stand alert to provide stringent security to the institution. Students and staff members in a large number returned to the university in a poignant symbol of perseverance despite the horrors they had gone through.
More CCTV cameras have been installed inside the university. The boundary walls have been raised and more security guards hired to ensure the protection of the university. The transport facility at the university has, however, been stopped for security reasons, which would certainly cause serious problems to the day-scholars and staff members.
University spokesperson Saeed Khan said that earlier 55 guards were performing duty and now 20 new security guards are being deployed for the BKU's security. Watchtowers will be installed at a distance of 100 metres at the campus, he said. The BKU VC said that special lectures would be delivered to students to relieve them of the "psychological trauma they underwent".
