Haripur University of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has introduced four years integrated course covering both Forestry and Wildlife Management, giving students a chance to study both discipline in same tenure. "The Haripur University course is unique and for the first time introduced in the country where students will be educated both Forestry and Wildlife Management," said Dr Mumtaz Malik, Advisor for Forestry and Wildlife Studies Haripur University.
"In-fact integrated Forestry and Wildlife Management course is not only unique in Pakistan, but also in whole Asia," he claimed. Talking to newsmen here on Monday, Dr Mumtaz Malik who is also former Chief Conservator of Wildlife Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa said no institute in Pakistan including Pakistan Forest Institute (PFI) is studying integrated courses.
Students who study Forestry course from any institute are not being able to serve in Wildlife Management and similarly in the same manner students of wildlife management could not cater to the needs of forestry. However now, he continued, after introduction of four years BS Honours in Forestry and Wildlife Management will give an opportunity to students to study both the disciplines. He said presently around 80 students are studying at Haripur university to avail this opportunity and will have good job opportunities after completion of studies.
