Director General Customs Intelligence & Investigation Imtiaz Ahmed Khan has said that necessary measures would be taken for the establishment of Customs court in Multan to hear the cases of Southern Punjab while a check post at Sadiqabad would start functioning from next month. He stated this while talking to media on Tuesday along with Rai Nisar Ahmed, Additional Director. He said that a vigorous campaign would be launched on the entrances of Motorway against the non-Customs paid and smuggled vehicles.
He said that smuggled vehicles and spare parts are being taken to Punjab from Dubai, Japan, Iran Bander Abbas seaport via Balochistan. While highlighting the achievement of his staff, he said that 59 non-Customs paid vehicles were seized, while smuggled goods and vehicles worth Rs 285.8 million, 7,211 tyres/tubes worth Rs 33.9 million, auto spare parts worth Rs 23.5 million were, diesel of Rs 13.7 million from July 01, 2015 to February 15, 2016 were confiscated.
He urged the Customs officers to perform their duties with dedication and strengthen the national economy by launching a robust tax recovery campaign and anti-smuggling operations. While visiting office of the Customs Intelligence & Investigation in Multan, he said all the officers will have to work hard to improve the revenue collection. He urged the collectors of Customs central region to arrest nominated smugglers and increase liaison with Motorways and Highways authorities along with law enforcement agencies like Rangers and police to curb the menace of smuggling.
